I know I post art but I authored an article "Does Technology Make You More Reclusive?"
For
years society has been progressing and working towards evolving technology. Now
cellphones, laptops, tablets, Iwatch’s and many other devices that allows
people to be constantly connected. But what if no one wants to contact or
communicate with others, causing stress and anxiety from anxiousness on waiting
for a reply. As stated in the article “The Loneliness Epidemic: We’re More
Connected Than Ever - But Are We Feeling More Alone”, “Social Pain is as real a
sensation for us as physical pain, and research has shown loneliness impacts on
health in a greater way than smoking or obesity.” This could greatly affect the
public, possibly being one of the leading national health risk.
Studies have acknowledge that
loneliness alone increases morality risks by 26% mental health foundations try
to get a grasp on this to understand how wide this is. A foundation in the UK
took a survey and one in ten of the population feels lonely and it showed 48%
of people think they’re getting lonelier. As people communicate they form bonds
with others, they begin to miss them, and people begin to feel as if they’re the
person’s sole focus of attention. Some parts of the brain activate physical
pain like loneliness and rejection, which researchers have shown. If people let
loneliness manifest it could be worse than smoking 15 cigarettes a day or it
effects the persons overall mental health. Many have an online connection but
it ruins the personally relationship when it begins to feel like talking to a
machine.
In
the book “alone together” by Turkle, Turkle gathers information from 300
children and 150 adults that took his survey and he came to the realization
that if someone devotes a large portion of their time connecting online than
you become more isolated in “non-living” virtual realms. Being online for the
majority of the time generally leads to emotional disconnection, mental
fatigue, and anxiety. Many hear teens discussing how they would rather text
over talking, like hiding from one another behind a screen controlling what
they have to say and whether they even have to say anything back at all. when
people more from, I have a feeling I need to send a call someone to, I want to
have a feeling, I need to send a text, something more unfortunate happens to
their relations with others. It gets to a point where they need acceptance,
they have to be connected through media rather than our individual characters
connecting.
No
matter what social media helps people talk to family and friends. This
generation can keep everyone constantly updated posting photos of everything
you’ve done, events, charity, volunteer work. Many opportunities are provided
through social media also. When going through the right pages people can find
many jobs and gain knowledge that will equip them properly for which ever job
they may be obtaining. Social media is also great for distributing someone or
your own product or just selling something to make quick money and many new
friends.
But generally that is not the case. Many men prowl on women
who try to meet up to sell an item of their own. Most of the time you end up
posting memes or scrolling through social feed on apps like Instagram, Tumblr, Facebook,
Snapchat and more. The time that most spend on their phone could have gone to
helping the community of bettering yourself and studying to make a life for the
person. They tend to look at trends or new things on the market rather than
looking for jobs to help them afford things like that on the web, they miss
many opportunities just so they can lay and stare at a screen when so much
productivity could be done. Rather than playing on their phone they can better
their education, morals, communication skills, job experiences and skills that
they could have obtained. In all social media is a choice of the lazy, where
you can spend hours finding out what everyone else is doing while the phone
owner sits behind a screen for hours not even speaking because you cannot carry
a conversation with technology actually human interaction is what requires
communication skills which most people have lost due to the technology that has
been developed.

This project was made of tissue paper, it was meant to resemble a stainless glass window the process required a long plain black sheet that you fold in half, after folding you use an exacto-knife and cut out the figure you want to be shown. After the sheet is cut you unfold and glue down the tissue paper then glue the edges together and make sure the tissue paper is on the inside of the drawing. I decided to make a lizard with floral designs in the background.
